Fashion designers are creators of art. They build their works from fabrics, patterns, accessories, all kinds of precious materials and metals. They are unique because they are able to attach their final result on every day life. You, the buyer, are able to assimilate their esthetics and talent into your own persona. They assemble together unexpected combinations and give color and beauty to our living. Fashion designers orient their products towards the needs of the customers: practical, glamorous, casual, haute-couture, nonconformist, classy, serious and so on. Their number is directly connected to the personalities that aspire to a certain fashion style.
Today the most acclaimed fashion designers are either extremely innovative or utterly dominant across the years in the world of fashion – or both. Only the best and most talented and daring can prevail in such a tough and versatile industry. Fashion designers all over the world have established countries with a fashion industry of their own. Five nations have achieved international reputations in fashion design: Italy, France, United Sates of America, United Kingdom and Japan.
The first names that come to your mind when referring to French fashion are Christian Dior, Chanel, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Givenchy,Nina Ricci, Louis Vuitton or Yves Saint-Laurent . These are but a few, bearing in mind that Paris is the point where all fashion began. These fashion designers have always maintained the chic characteristic of every French creation, always focusing on class, refined style and high-end glamour. They design sophisticated clothes, complemented by smart accessories. They have salons, boutiques and presentations all over the world and they always seem to prevail with their esthetic sense over the majority of fashion shows each year.
Unfortunately, Paris is thought to be losing its fashion crown to London. The British designers that have become very popular over the years are Vivienne Westwood, Sir Hardy Amies, Christopher Kane and Christopher Bailey. It needs to be pointed out that the first fashion designer was British, although he established his name in Paris. Their creations embody the traditional British style that conveys elegant postures. Their conservative creations are made of extravagant fabrics that breathe a touch of royalty and dignity.
Italian designers that represent the peak of worldwide fashion creations are Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana, Armani, Versace, Gianfranco Ferrè and Valentino. Some are popular for their clear-cut leather clothes, others for brightly-colored creations or for a subtle touch of masculinity impregnated in the women’s lines. They all encompass informal elegance and luxury, perfectly combining the classic with the modern in the usual Italian way. Milan is considered to be the fashion capital of this country.
Tokyo hosts most of the Japanese fashion houses. Here, top fashion designers are Issey Miyake, Kenzo and Rei Kawakubo. Their creations are characterized by unstructured and complicated cuts, abundant patterns and dark colors. They often use multiple layers highly innovative cuts.
In the Unite States, the dominant style is a casual, athletic one. These top designers concentrate on the loose but elegant demeanor of fashion. They combine the practical with unique details resulting in a modern, relaxed sophistication. These are Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger and Anna Sui. Very popular among the young generation are Hollister, Abercrombie and Fitch, Coach and American Eagle. New York has established itself as the main fashion oriented city.
